What is it?


The  miniature  graphs  at  the base  of  the  screen  give   an overview of market trends and allow  you to select  a group of stocks  to  view  in more detail. The   micrographs   represent the   Dow    Jones     Industrial Average, your  Portfolio  (when it is set up), and the Advances, Declines ,  and    Most    Active stocks  traded  on  the   NYSE floor.

Each  column  in a graph represents a single stock and its change for the day. Green indicates a gain; red indicates a loss. Rolling over the column displays the stock symbol and the percent change.

Using the Micrographs
To see  more  detail  about  a group of stocks, click the button underneath its micrograph. The List View, Activity Map, and 3D Chart / 3D Floor viewer will   display   information   about   the   each  of  the  stocks  in  the  group, including their relative price, volume, and change.

3D CHART

What is it?
The   3D  Chart   displays   the selected  group  of  stocks  by their   relative   price,   volume, and change. The name of the group  of  stocks   selected  is stated at the top of the screen. If   you   have   selected   DJIA, Advances,   Declines,   Most Active,  or  Portfolio,  the corresponding micrograph will be highlighted at the base of the screen.

Roll over the chart to view the details for a single stock, including its symbol, price, volume, and percent change.

To resort the chart, click on the Price, Volume, and Change.

Using the 3D Chart
To see information on a single stock, roll over a single "slice" of the chart, and  its  symbol  name,  price,  volume,  and change will be  displayed. To see  more  detailed  information  on  a stock,  click on the bars in the chart that represent it.  Details  for the  day  and historical performance data will be displayed in the right-hand single stock frame.

ACTIVITY MAP

What is it?
The Activity Map is an accurate representation   of   the   NYSE Trading   Floor.   The    Trading Floor    is   composed   of    20 posts  (as  numbered  on   the map) with 30 panels each. Up to  30  stocks   are   traded   at each panel. Each stock trades at only one panel on the floor.

The Activity Map allows you to monitor action on the floor. When you select a group of stocks to view, the trading location of each stock in the group is tagged on the Activity Map.

The  NYSE trading floor has 20 posts. Each post on the Activity Map bears its official number.

PANEL
Each  post  has  30 panels, at which up to 30  stocks are traded.  Click on a panel to see a list of the stocks traded at the location.

FLAG
Colored  circles  mark  the  panels  on  the  floor  where  the  stocks in the selected  group  trade.  The  scale  of  the  circle  represents the degree of percent change.
RED indicates that the stock has declined for the day.
GREEN indicates that the stock has gained for the day.
WHITE indicates that the stock has posted a net change of zero.
    (All stocks will appear white when the market is closed.)

HOT SPOT
Elongated,  light  blue  prongs  mark panels  at  which one of the day's 30 most   active   stocks trade.   The   scale  of  the   prongs   represents   the magnitude of trading volume.

To see  an on-screen legend of the Activity Map,  click  on t he  legend tab. You  will be  taken to a  maximized view of the Activity map with  a detailed explanation of color and iconography.  To return to the previous view, click the - icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Enlarging the Map
The  Activity Map is available in two sizes: the default, quarter screen view, and a full-screen view offering a legend and multiple views.

To maximize  the size of the Activity Map, click the + icon in the upper right-hand corner of the window. (To return to the previous view, click the - icon in the same position.)

In the  maximized version,  you may control your view  of the map.  To hide the  change  indicators,  click  Hide Alerts.  Click the  Show Alerts button in the  same  position to  recall the indicators to view. You may also hide the floor plan  by  clicking  Hide  Floor.  Return to  it by  clicking  the Show Floor button in the same position.

Using the Activity Map
For  more  detailed information about a post, set top-half of your screen to the  3D Floor View.  Then  click  on  a  panel in the Activity Map, and the 3D Floor View will travel to the stock you want to track.

You  may   change   the   group  of  stocks  tagged  on  the  Activity  Map  by selecting  a  new  stock  group  via  the   Micrographs   or  entering multiple symbols  in  the  search field and clicking "go." You may highlight a single stock's  trading  location  by  selecting  it  from  the  List  View,  entering its symbol in  the search field, or selecting the  symbol  flag  in  the   3D Floor view.

3D FLOOR

What is it?


The virtual floor is an accurate, 3D    representation      of    the NYSE Trading Floor, and each post       contains           market information for the stocks that trade   at  that  location  on the actual NYSE Trading Floor.

To activate the 3D floor mode, click on the tab on the left side of  your  screen.  The  3D floor replaces the 3D chart, which is displayed by default when you enter NYSE MarkeTrac.

For quick information on reading and manipulating the 3D model, click on the  button  labeled  "Instructions"  in the  lower  left-hand corner of the 3D viewer window.

When  you  view  the  3D   floor,   the  group  of  stocks  you  have  selected (displayed  at  the  top  of  the  screen and highlighted in the micrographs) will be  "tagged"  in  red and  green  throughout  the  floor.  To  change  the group of stocks tagged on the 3D floor, you may either select a new group of stocks via the   micrographs ,  or  enter a series of stock symbols in the search field, separated  by  spaces.  The stocks you have selected will be tagged in the 3D floor and the  activity map , as well as displayed in the on the right-hand side of the screen.

Getting Stock Information
You may use the list view, the activity map, the ticker, or the search feature to locate individual stocks on the 3D floor.

From within the model:
To  see  a more detailed  view  of any post, double click on any panel. You will automatically "fly" directly to the location selected.  The symbols of the stocks traded at that panel will be listed.

To see  detailed  information  about  one of  the stocks listed, double click on its symbol. To return to the panel list, double click again.

From the activity map:  Click  on  a trading post panel in the map.  You will automatically "fly" directly to the panel where that stock trades.

From the stock ticker:  Click on any symbol in the scrolling to in to travel to its panel and see a single quote in the 3D space.

From the list view:  Click  on  any  symbol  in the list in to travel to its panel and see a single quote in the 3D space.

Manipulating the 3D space
Use the icons beneath the viewer to rotate (right, left, up, down) and zoom (in and out).  To return to  the  default view of the floor, click the rectangular icon or double click anywhere  in the viewer outside the floor model.

To navigate using your mouse:

MOVE Right click and drag in the direction you want to move.  You  can move the floor model from side to side or up and down.

ROTATE Left click and drag  in  the  direction you want to spin the floor.

ZOOM Both click and drag.  Drag  upwards to zoom in, and downwards to zoom out.

FLY Double  clicko n a  post  or  panel  to fly through the  floor  to  that  location.  Each  panel at which stocks  trade  will display a list of symbols on its front.  Double  click  on a symbol to see a single quote.  Double click  again  to  back up and view the entire panel.

You  may  also  fly  directly  to a panel by clicking on it once in the Activity Map.

You  may   fly  to  a   single  stock  by  clicking  its red/green   indicator  in  the   Activity  Map   or  its symbol in the list view.

PORTFOLIO

Creating Your Portfolio
The  Portfolio feature  allows you to create and  track up to 20    stocks.     To   create   a Portfolio,  click on  the button labeled "Portfolio" on the left side of  the  screen.  You will  be  presented with a form in which  to  enter  the   symbol name, price, and number of shares of the stock you wish to track. Click Save to create your Portfolio and view a performance summary.

Using the Portfolio
Click on any symbol in the list to see information on its performance in all areas of the screen.

To view  detailed  performance,  click  the "Details" at the top of the listing. The  expanded  listing  will  collapse  the  3D  viewer  and  the Activity Map. Clicking  on  an  individual  symbol in the Portfolio will automatically return to the  Summary  view  to  allow you to see performance information in the viewer  and  the  Activity Map.  You  may  also  click  the Summary button to return to the brief listing.

You may edit your Portfolio at any time by clicking the "Edit" button.

LIST VIEW

Using the List View
The  List View displays on the right-hand side of your screen all  NYSE-listed   components of   five   main     indexes    and groups:   the    Dow       Jones Industrial     Average     (DJIA), Advances,   Declines,    Most Active,    and   your    personal Portfolio. You may change the contents of the list view using the micrograph controls at the base of the screen. You may also display information   about   a  customized   group  of   stocks  by   entering  their symbols,  separated  by  spaces, in the search field, then clicking "go."

The List View provides price, net change and percent change information for all its components.  For a more detailed quote,   click the symbol of an individual stock.

Use the pull-down menu to sort the list by its components (symbol name, price, net change, and percent change).

SINGLE STOCK

Getting info on a single stock


You can retrieve performance information on a single stock in the following ways:
  • Enter a stock symbol in the search field and click the "go" button
  • Click on a single symbol in the list view
  • Click on a single column in a micrograph

In the 3D floor view
When   you  are  using   the   3D floor ,  you  may  see stock information  in the viewer  itself.  On an individual panel,  click on the symbol about which you wish  to see information.  Searching for a single symbol, clicking on a symbol  in the  list view, or clicking on  a single column in the micrograph will also display a single quote in the 3D viewer.

Glossary of Terms
ANN DIV.
Annual dividends per share.

BETA COEFFICIENT:
A  calculation  for  assessing  the volatility of a security in comparison with the  rest  of  the  market.  Beta  is  calculated using regression analysis. A beta of 1  indicates  that  the  security's  price  will move with the market. A beta greater than 1 indicates that  the  security's price will be more volatile than the market.  A beta less than 1 means that it will be less volatile than the market.

EARNINGS PER SHARE:
Net  income  for a  specific  period  divided  by the  number of outstanding shares.

YIELD %
The   rate   of   return   on   an   investment,   expressed   as   an   annual percentage rate.

NEWS

Using News
From the single stock view,  you may view news about an individual stock by  clicking  on  the  news  button at the top of the stock information. A new browser window  will open with  a summary  of headlines about the stock you have selected. (MarkeTrac remains running in the background). Click on  a  headline to  see the full story.  When you are  finished reading,  you may close the window to return to MarkeTrac.

CHARTS

From  the   single stock   view, click  the  "charts" button to see a graphical summary  of  the  week,  quarter,  and  year  performance  of the stock you have  selected.  From  the  charts  view,  you may elect to see more charts (using the button provided),  or  return to the previous view. Use the Close button  in  the  upper  right-hand  corner of the viewing area to return to the previous view.

TICKER



By default,  the ticker displays all  NYSE-listed  components of  the  Dow  Jones Industrial Average   ( DJIA ).     However, once   you   select   and  save stocks in the Portfolio feature, the   ticker   will   display  your personal stock preferences.

To change the content of the ticker,   use   the    pull-down menu   to   the   left   of     the start/stop button.

For a detailed display of any stock in the ticker, click on the symbol.
